Sara Young is currently the Director of Compliance and Informal Dispute Resolution for Capistrano Unified School District. Within the district, she manages the established informal dispute resolution process, and works with administrators to problem solve special education issues at the local level. She also collaborates with outside counsel during due process hearings and federal litigation.
Prior to moving in-house with Capistrano Unified School District, Sara worked for a private law firm specializing in special education law representing several law public school districts in Orange County. In her time as an attorney, Sara has been cited in, and written articles for Special Education Connection, and has been asked to present at local and national conferences.
Sara earned her Juris Doctor from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, where she was a member of the Education Law Journal. Before beginning law school, Sara earned a M.S. Ed. in special education for the deaf from the University of Kansas. She also has a B.S. in special education for the deaf and for the blind summa cum laude from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. Sara previously worked as a special education teacher.
Currently, Sara is completing her Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Social Context at the University of California Irvine. Sara is active in the Junior League of Orange County California where she serves as the Vice President and sits on the Board of Directors. She is also on the advisory board of the Child Creativity Lab.
